Ruth has been very active in supporting and educating people about the college search process, and students with disabilities. These are some of the workshops she presents.

Transition: A Rite of Passage; presented to students majoring in education at local colleges and universities in Maryland.
  • This workshop reviewed the federal mandates for students with disabilities as they move from the public or private school setting to college or employment; also suggestions for making the transition smooth and successful
Tools to Empower: Helping Your Clients with Disabilities Become Better Self-Advocates; presented at conference sponsored by the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) in November 2009, held in Charlotte, NC
  • This workshop focused on helping the educational consultant prepare their students with disabilities for college by teaching and supporting self-advocacy skills; practical suggestions
Guiding the Way: Helping Your Child with Disabilities Prepare for and Endure the College Search; free 1 hour workshop offered to the parents of students in public and private schools high schools; ongoing and as requested
  • This workshop will explain the differences in high school and college accommodations, the types of services and programs available in colleges for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, mobility issues, and other disability types, and ways for them to plan ahead for the college experience.
